4. Sometimes, a crackling sound is heard while taking off a sweater during winters. Explain.
Answer :- While taking off a sweater in winter, a crackling sound is heard because the surface of the sweater gets charged due to friction with the body. These charges attract each other, causing a crackling sound.
5. Explain why a charged body loses its charge if we touch it with our hand.
Answer :- When we touch a charged object with our hands, it loses its charge, because our body is a good conductor of electricity. On touching this electrical charge passes through the body to the earth and the object becomes uncharged.
6. Name the scale on which the destructive energy of an earthquake is measured. An earthquake measures 3 on this scale. Would it be recorded by a seismograph? Is it likely to cause much damage?
Answer :- The scale used to measure earthquakes is reactor scale or seismography. Seismography can record earthquakes of magnitude 1 to 3. An earthquake involving more than 3 reactors is harmful. An earthquake of more than 5 reactors is harmful to humans and property.
7. Suggest three measures to protect ourselves from lightning.
Answer :- Following are the three measures to protect against lightning:
(i) Do not take out if you are in a car or bus.
(ii) Stay away from any kind of electrical equipment as much as possible, because lightning is also a form of electricity.
(iii) Do not bathe in running water, otherwise you may get electrocuted.
8. Explain why a charged balloon is repelled by another charged balloon whereas an uncharged balloon is attracted by another charged balloon?
Answer :- A charged balloon repels another charged balloon, because like charges repel each other, while an uncharged balloon attracts a charged balloon, because unlike charges are attracted.

12. The weather department has predicted that a thunderstorm is likely to occur on a certain day. Suppose you have to go out on that day. Would you carry an umbrella? Explain.
