In this chapter we are learn how to find factors of the given numbers. Here We will try to explain this lesson in an easy way. We hope that you will understand it well. Here we will try to explain factors through some important questions like factors of 2, factors of 24, factors of 12, factors of 18, factors of 30, factors of 45, factors of 8.

## Factors

The numbers which perfectly divides a number, called factors.
1 is the factor of every numbers.
Factor prime numbers are always 1 and the number itself.

### Finding Factors of a Number

Example – John wants to find out those numbers which perfectly divide 4. He divides 4 by 4 and smaller numbers like this :
4 ÷ 1
$$\displaystyle \begin{array}{l}1\overset{4}{\overline{\left){4}\right.}}\\\underline{{-\,4\,\,\,}}\\\underline{{\,\,\,\,\times \,\,\,}}\end{array}$$
Quotient is 4
Remainder is 0

4 ÷ 2
$$\displaystyle \begin{array}{l}2\overset{2}{\overline{\left){4}\right.}}\\\underline{{-\,\,4\,\,\,}}\\\underline{{\,\,\,\,\,\times \,\,\,}}\end{array}$$
Quotient is 2
Remainder is 0

4 ÷ 3
$$\displaystyle \begin{array}{l}3\overset{1}{\overline{\left){4}\right.}}\\\underline{{-\,\,3\,\,\,}}\\\underline{{\,\,\,\,\,1\,\,\,}}\end{array}$$
Quotient is 1
Remainder is 1

4 ÷ 4
$$\displaystyle \begin{array}{l}4\overset{1}{\overline{\left){4}\right.}}\\\underline{{-\,\,4\,\,\,}}\\\underline{{\,\,\,\,\,\times \,\,\,}}\end{array}$$
Quotient is 1
Remainder is 0
Jhon – 1, 2 and 4 are numbers which perfectly divides 4. Hence 1, 2 and 4 are factors of the number 4. So 4 can also be written as 1 × 4 and 2 × 2.
